Big Picture Classes held a Craft Party on 12 June 2015. I signed up for it despite the time difference (8pm – 1am Singapore time). The ‘Creating in Contrast’ challenge was the first one I completed. I decided to take on this challenge as I don’t usually work with dark backgrounds. Ever since I picked up on the trend for white backgrounds, I’ve been hooked on it. I love how white makes the colours pop and thus stuck to working on white backgrounds.
For this layout, I knew I wanted to include a white doily and that most elements would be white, with several pops of colour. I was drawn to the blues in the photo and although blue-on-blue isn’t very contrasting, matting the photo with white paper helped it stand out. I decided to go with pops of yellow, orange and green as these colours (besides the blue) stood out most in the photo.

Overall, I’m happy with how the colours pop even with a dark background. I’ll definitely work on dark backgrounds more often now!
